Where the Wild Things Are

I know a full-length movie just came out about this book but we haven't seen it yet. I read a lot of books growing up and I don't remember having a love for that one. I do remember watching the video at the library and I think the 'wild things' scared me a bit. We've been renting the Scholastic Collection movies from the library so I thought I'd give this one another chance. I was worried that it might scare Emery but as it turns out, she's braver than I was. Plus, this video has other Maurice Sendak books put to animation and Em loves it! Her favorite is "In the Night Kitchen" and I enjoy watching that but I will warn you there is a little nudity; obviously not profane but thought I'd let you know. My favorite part of this particular video is the medley of Sendak's books set to music. There's Pierre, One Was Johnny, and my favorite, Chicken Soup with Rice.

I can't recommend these videos more highly; not just this one but each in the collection. Go check them out!

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

Starring: Dustin Hoffman, Natalie Portman, and Jason Bateman

I love this movie! It's so underrated! I don't remember what exactly attracted my attention enough to see this in the theaters but we did and I'm glad! Now we own it! Emery requested this movie the other day and I fell back in love with it. I know I've already reviewed a movie this week but bear with me.

This movie is whimsical, has great music, no hidden innuendos, magical, charming, smart, and fanciful. Here are some of my favorite lines,

'All stories, even the ones we love, must eventually come to an end and when they do, it's only an opportunity for another story to begin.'

'I've hired an accountant...According to the word, it must be a cross between a counter and a mutant and that may be precisely what we need.'

'37 seconds, well used, is a lifetime'

'We must face tomorrow, whatever it may hold, with determination, joy and bravery'

Plus, Dustin Hoffman gives a great narrative on death but it's too long to copy--you'll just have to see for yourself!

Do yourself a favor and rent this movie!
